Andrea Bowers

"Whose Feminism Is It Anyway?"

Closing this weekend at Andrew Kreps Gallery is a solo show by Los Angeles artist, Andrea Bowers.

Tackling the topic of Transgender Liberation, Bowers includes both subtle and powerful pieces in her exhibit; including inspirational banners, graphite drawings, hand-drawn posters, and monumentalized portraits of trans heroines.

An intimate screening room occupied the back of the gallery, which showed an incredible film projected on inspirational banners that featured three trans women in a heated discussion on the politics of gender identity. One of the women, Jennicet Guitérrez, is the activist who interrupted President Obama during his LGBTQ address at the White House last year. This film recaps the poignant moment with commentary from Guitérrez.
